Small, delicate and packed with plenty of flavour, Pepus Baby Sardines are a fantastic introduction to the world of smaller sardinillas-style conservas. The fish are beautifully tender with a softer texture than larger sardines, while the vegetable oil keeps everything clean, light and approachable. There is a gentle sweetness to these little fish that makes them especially moreish.

Produced in Spain using traditional canning methods, Pepus focuses on accessible conservas that still honour the seafood itself.

Their baby sardines are particularly popular as an aperitif-style tin; simple, satisfying and easy to pair with drinks and snacks.

These are excellent served on potato crisps with a touch of aioli, or alongside pickled vegetables and chilled white wine for pre-dinner grazing. Pair with a dry cava, a citrusy Riesling or even a refreshing gin and tonic.

The story of Pepus dates back to 2003, which is when Miquel Tapias, the present owner of Espinaler and the fourth generation of the Tapias family at the head of the business, decided to create a second brand of fish and shellfish preserves. Pepus was a personal friend of the Tapias family and Miquel named his second business "Pepus" in his honour when he passed away. The sardines are fished in the North-East Atlantic and Mediterranean. Steamed lightly and hand packed into tins with sunflower oil. Pepus is the fun, bright brand of Espinaler. They offer some great conservas for a more modest price point. Conservas for the people!
